Equipment and Safety

The following requirements apply to the various legs of the Long, Short, Kids and Groms off-road triathlon events. The mandatory items for the Run leg are relevant to the Trail Running events. These requirements form part of the Race Rules.

Compulsory items for all competitors

  • Timing band (not including the Groms event as it is untimed) – this will be supplied at registration.

SWIM Leg requirements – Long, Short & Kids

  • Swimmers must wear the swim cap provided at registration.
  • Hand paddles, flippers and other propulsion devices are NOT permitted.
  • You are permitted to rest on a rescue craft if required without penalty.
  • Wetsuits are optional.

MTB Leg requirements (Long, Short, Kids & Groms)

  • Riders must have the number plate given to you at registration attached to the front of the handlebars on your bike.
    • Plate colours:
      • Long course: black
      • Short course: white
      • Kids course: orange
      • Groms: blue
  • All riders must wear a certified Bike Helmet to Aust/NZ/US standard at all times during the ride.
  • The course and all intersections will be marked with coloured tape, arrows and witches hats but you can still get lost if you don’t pay attention. Keep an eye out for trail markers at all times. It is your responsibility to follow the correct course.
  • No assistance from team mates, support crews or members of the public is allowed during the MTB leg other than in the designated drink station adjacent to T2.
  • All riders must walk bikes through the transition area and helmets must be fastened before exiting the TA.

RUN Leg requirements (all events)

  • Runners must wear the race number plate during the entire run leg with the number visible from the frotn at all times.
  • The courses and all intersections will be marked with coloured tape and arrows, but you can still get lost if you don’t pay attention. Keep your eye out for trail markers at all times. It is the runner’s responsibility to follow the correct course.
  • No assistance from team mates or support crews is allowed during the run leg. This includes provision of any food or drink along the course.
