XTERRA Long Course recognition

The XTERRA Long Course race at Dunsborough is a recognised as:

  • A Silver Level qualification event as part of the XTERRA World Series. Details Here
  • Triathlon WA Off-Road State Championships, as designated by Triathlon WA. Details Here

XTERRA Long Course

The Long Course event at Dunsborough will be a fully accredited Silver Level XTERRA event with associated prize money and World Championship qualification opportunities for age group and elite triathletes.

XTERRA Elite prize money

The following prize money will be awarded to individuals competing as Elite Athletes in the XTERRA Long Course race, male and female:

  • 1st           USD $1,200
  • 2nd          USD $900
  • 3rd           USD $700
  • 4th           USD $550
  • 5th           USD $400

NOTE: The XTERRA prize money is ONLY available to those who compete in the Elite category and who are recognised as Elite by XTERRA Global (details below). Money will be paid by XTERRA Global and is exclusive of any international transfer fees. Elite athletes will not be eligible for XTERRA age category awards or qualification spots (but you are eligible for TWA recognition as outlined below).

XTERRA Elite Athletes

Athletes looking to compete in the elite category and be eligible for the XTERRA prize money and 2024 XTERRA World Championships elite qualification spots must tick ‘Enter as an elite competitor’ box as part of the online entry system AND must be a certified elite competitor recognised by XTERRA Global. The criteria for Elite recognition is fully explained on the XTERRA website here and is handled by XTERRA Global. For any questions or requests, please contact: [email protected]

Elite Athlete support. Financial support is available for some elite athletes to attend XTERRA Dunsborough. All requests for financial support should be directed to: [email protected]

XTERRA Age Group – World Championship qualification

A number of World Championship qualification spots are available for age group athletes at XTERRA Dunsborough. Age Group athletes looking to qualify for the 2024 XTERRA World Championships must enter the long course race as a standard entrant and commence in the mass start. World Championship qualification is fully explained on the XTERRA website here


Triathlon WA Off-Road State Championships

The XTERRA Long Course also doubles as the Triathlon WA (TWA) Off-Road Triathlon State Championships (as per 2021 – 2023) and will be the premier off-road triathlon event in WA.

TWA Prize Money

The following prize money awarded overall individual champions who are TWA standard or premium members, male and female, racing in the open/elite category:

  • 1st           $AUD500
  • 2nd          $AUD400
  • 3rd           $AUD300

To be considered for the TWA State Championship prize money and / or age group recognition athletes must be

  • A current Triathlon WA standard or premium member (TWA)
  • Enter your TWA membership number in the online entry process (if you need to find your number you can log back in to your entry and advise us later)

NOTE: The TWA prize money is ONLY available to current TWA standard or premium members racing in the open/elite category. Taking out a one day Triathlon WA Licence does NOT qualify you to receive TWA prizemoney. You do not have to race as an XTERRA Elite competitor to receive the TWA prize money. TWA prize money will be paid by TWA and is exclusive of any international transfer fees.

XTERRA Long Course Categories

The following categories will be recognised at the 2024 XTERRA Long Course in accordance with XTERRA and Triathlon WA: 

Individuals (Solo competitors who complete the entire course alone)

  • Elite/open individual
  • 15-19 years
  • 20- 24 years
  • 25- 29 years
  • 30-34 years
  • 35- 39 years
  • 40-44 years
  • 45- 49 years
  • 50-54 years
  • 55 – 59 years
  • 60-64 years
  • 65-69 years
  • 70 -74 years
  • 75-79 years
  • All age categories are according to your age on 31 December 2024

Relay Teams of up to 3

A relay team with either 2 or 3 competitors who divide the course between them (either doing one leg each if a team of 3 or one person doing 2 legs if a team of 2)

  • Junior Team (all competitors aged 15 to 19 years of age)
  • Male Team
  • Female Team
  • Mixed Team

Junior athletes must be 15 years of age on 31 December 2024.

NOTE: There are minimum age limits for this event in accordance with Triathlon WA policy (basically you must be 15 yrs or older in order to compete as either an individual or in a relay team). Rapid Ascent regrets that we are unable to include younger competitors.
